David Pikoff – that’s [PIE – cough]. Sound familiar? It should. David’s been a contribution to our Four Points area for a while now. He previously owned and operated Games2U and, while currently still sitting on the board for that organization, David has moved on to other endeavors, to wit, Highlights Gametime Grill. That’s the other name that will soon sound familiar.
What is it, you ask? Why, it’s a family sports grill (emphasis on “family”, folks) popping up adjacent to the new Flores location at the Trails at 620. So close that you could stand on the porch of Flores and throw a rock at Highlights, but please don’t as you might damage one of the 527,000 big screens that he plans to drop into the joint. If you find that you must throw something, throw a dart. Highlights is
planning to form a co-ed darts league for your entertainment. I promise to keep my inept dart-throwing hands away from you – see my nephew’s hole-riddled basement wall for further explanation.
But this isn’t just any new sports grill. David has thrown a little planning into the space. For starters, the food. It will be chef-prepared and daily fresh; so fresh that there are no plans for an onsite freezer. Highlights is promising fantastically delicious food at modest prices with not-at-all-modest customer service. I hear that quite frequently – we’ll provide superior customer service – and I usually find that this does not come to fruition, but something tells me that David’s going to deliver.
As with the food and service, the layout and general environment of the restaurant will be top-notch and cater to literally any type of customer. One area will be set aside for appetizers and cocktails; kind of a hip, bar scene with a let’s-pop-in-here-before-we-head-downtown feel to it. Highlights will also offer a big screen dining room and a separate sports area with a plethora of TVs for you fanatics out there. There will be a covered porch adjacent to the shared outdoor playscape. Highlights is looking to include some live music space as well. This spot will appeal to many different customers - families, couples, friends, and singles.
Personally, I love sports, but am not a fan of the traditional sports restaurant/bar scene. However, I can totally see myself hanging here because this has such a chill feel to it. And because David has promised to air every matchup of my beloved New York Yankees. He’s not entirely aware of this promise yet – but I plan to work on him. Who knows, I might even spend some time adjusting my parabolic curve and actually join that dart league…
Stay tuned for more deets – menu, et al, being developed as I type. Highlights Gametime Grill has an expected opening of November 2012. Can’t wait!
